Excellent course although the terrain is quite flat.

I'm a member here, and have been for a few months. Cypress Tree on Maxwell Air Force Base actually has two 18-hole courses. The University (West) Course is more well maintained, but is very flat and generally straight and wide. It's not overly challenging. It is very easy to walk this course. The River (East) Course is the older course, it is more challenging and more pleasing to the eye, but it is not nearly as well maintained, plus it is within the flood plain of the Alabama River. The front nine walks easily, but there is some more challenging walking terrain on the back nine. Member rate is $62.50/month for senior officers, so it is very affordable. The weather during the summer is nearly unbearable, but October-March is prime golf weather in Alabama. I'll miss these courses when the Army makes me move in a few months. To note, federal inmates maintain both courses, so just realize the guys mowing and maintaining the facilities are federal felons.
